Farash Prize

THE FARASH PRIZE FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

First awarded in 2012, the Farash Prize honors the legacy of Max Farash—a business entrepreneur who, along with his wife, Marian, recognized the importance of supporting social causes in their community.

Grassroots social entrepreneurs too often go unrecognized by their own communities. The goal of the Farash Prize is to honor what has been accomplished by giving visibility and credibility to individual entrepreneurs and their organizations. The Prize encourages the creation of innovative approaches to meet and reduce community social needs. The winner’s affiliated organization receives $100,000.

The 2018 Prize went to Martin Weingarten, founder and former president of the Center for Youth, which was founded in 1971 as a “kid-inspired” organization that now offers counseling, prevention education, and youth development opportunities to young people throughout Greater Rochester. Weingarten served as president for 17 years.
