Project Campfire is an unprecedented investment in Jewish life in Rochester, removing the financial barrier to Jewish overnight camp and dramatically expanding access to Camp Seneca Lake. Independent evaluations by Third Plateau Social Impact Strategies show that in its first summer alone, Project Campfire drove a 135% increase in new Rochester campers, met and often exceeded campers’ expectations for joy, belonging, friendship, and Jewish connection, and strengthened Jewish identity and community engagement. A separate CSL Alumni Study confirms that the impact of Jewish camp endures well into adulthood, with over 95% of alumni reporting a strong connection to their Jewish identity and the Jewish community years later. These local results mirror national longitudinal findings that show repeated experiences at Jewish overnight camp deepen Jewish identity in adults.
